It is the conclusion of this researcher that the violence perpetrated by commercial vehicle drivers is in different perspectives depending on the motives behind it. And finally, it was also found that the State influence contributes to violence by commercial vehicle drivers in Ado-Ekiti. The result of this study also shows that violence by commercial vehicle drivers affects peace, security and economic activities in Ado-Ekiti seriously. This research also reveals that the security men were influenced politically to look the other way whenever the commercial vehicle drivers engage in violence thereby leading to sustained violence. Findings also show that driving environment and social background of commercial vehicle drivers trigger their violent dispositions. The researcher employed percentages, content analyses and tables in analysing and discussing the findings of this study.įindings show that there is significant relationship between commercial driving and violence by commercial vehicle drivers.

The total number of respondents from the population who returned responses from both questionnaires and interviews were eight hundred and fifteen (815). Eighty one respondents were interviewed all together. Total copies of questionnaire distributed were seven hundred and fifty (750) and seven hundred and thirty four (734) were returned. This study adopted stratified random sampling to obtain data from the population. In addition, data were collected using structured questionnaire, Focused Group Discussion FGD, Key Informant Interviews (KIIs). Survey approach was adopted for this study. It is also important because it sets to fill the gap created by dearth of academic interrogations most especially as it relates to Ekiti state. This research is necessary because most of the studies that have emerged on the phenomenon of drivers-induced conflicts in Nigeria have not undertaken a micro study of the Ekiti state scenario. The research was also conducted to determine the role played by all stakeholders including the state in sustaining the ugly trend in Ekiti state. This study examines the nature and causes of violence perpetrated by commercial vehicle drivers in Ekiti State, Nigeria and also determine how driver’s unions, a member of civil society organisations transformed to violent perpetrators in our society.
